62nd anniversary Primitivo di Manduria DOP Riserva 750ml

In 1962, to demonstrate the high winemaking potential of Salento, 19 winemakers founded “Cantine San Marzano”. Much time has passed since then, yet their old vineyards still produce rare and precious bunches. We have the task of collecting them and valorising them, with a pinch of experience and a handful of innovation. Result. this intense, elegant, long-lived Primitivo.

San Marzano wineries AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS BY YEAR

Grape variety: Primitive.
Area: Very old vineyards selected in the municipalities of San Marzano (TA) and Sava (TA).
Ground: Residual red soil with fine texture with calcareous substrate, sparse rocky outcrops and intense presence of iron oxides.
Cultivation: Saplings at least sixty years old (5,000 per hectare).
Harvest: Second half of September.
Winemaking: The grapes, in an advanced state of ripeness, are harvested manually. Maceration takes place for 18 days on 80% of the mass and for 25 days on 20%, with indigenous yeasts selected in the vineyard. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 24-26°C.
Refinement: In French and American oak barriques for 18 months.
Organoleptic characteristics: Very intense and elegant ruby ​​red color; broad and complex bouquet, fruity with hints of plums, cherry jam and notes of tobacco, slightly spicy; wine with great body, soft and rich in noble tannins with a finish that gives notes of cocoa, coffee and vanilla.
Pairings: Robust first courses, red meats and game. Meditation wine.
Serve at: 18°C.
